Art Studio - Donna McGee
My studio – the sacred ground and where it all happens!

My paintings are inspired by the love of the Irish landscape.  I am drawn to capture the play of  light and shadow,  rugged coastlines, earthy bog-lands and misty  mountain-tops.

Juggling a hectic schedule while working in financial services coupled with raising a family –  life became somewhat chaotic!  As a result, I  arrived at the decision  to pursue my lifelong passion in the creative process and develop my artwork instead. Consequently, I set up a studio at my home and followed my dream!

Fascinated by the vivid colours and cloud formation of the Irish sunset –  I never tire watching clouds evolve and dissolve over the horizon. It’s my aim to capture the essence of this beauty.  It could be said, that I sometimes go around with my “head in the clouds”

My preferred medium is oils – Working with a palette knife  while creating layers of rich texture and vibrancy.  Mostly self-taught,   my process tends to be more intuitive rather than analytical, as a result I will often add surreal elements to create greater mood and atmosphere.

Surrounded by magnificent scenery, I am blessed to live  at the foothills of the Dublin mountains.  Enjoying hillwalking, with camera at close range –  ready to capture the landscape and preserve a moment in time.  I make quick  sketches  and work them up later in my studio from my photo references.  Sometimes I will rearrange and edit my photos to create harmonious compositions.

Weather permitting, I  paint outdoors (en plein air).  This creates a sense of immediacy to capture the changing light.  It also helps to loosen up my brushstrokes because of the speed at which one has to work.  This can be somewhat challenging but rewarding at the same time.  I am a regular visitor to Europe’s largest open air painting festival in Wexford  Art in the Open.

Exploring the world through travel gives rise to experience new panoramas and cultures.   It has an inspirational impact on my work and creates a different perspective.  This is  something  I enjoy going in whatever destination the painting journey dictates.

The Benefit of buying my art
Collecting art can be very addictive because owning an original painting is most enjoyable and can last a life time.
  • Why not add an aesthetic quality to your home or office.
  •  Put the final touch to your interior design and become a focal point
  • Create a talking point among your friends.
  • It is a very unique gift for that someone special.
  • Increase in value as it is handed down from generation to generation.

It’s my aim to keep my artwork at competitive prices. Why not brighten up a dull space with an original painting and enjoy  for many years to come!
