My greatest inspiration comes from observing the timeless beauty of the Irish landscape. Magnificent sunsets, stormy skies disappearing over the horizon, contrasted against the rhythmic force of the ocean.
I paint the places that I have visited and remain in my memory – the places I want to share with you and to make them become part of your story. I create paintings that are filled with mood and atmosphere – sometimes photo-realistic, sometimes abstract, ethereal and surreal. It’s all a part of an exciting journey waiting to land.
I work in oils and love the vibrancy. I use a palette knife and create great effects while building texture. Being mostly self-taught, my process tends to me more intuitive rather than analytical.
Living close to the Dublin mountains and surrounded by greenways and parks, I feel blessed. Exploring this countryside, my camera is ready to capture the landscape and preserve a moment in time. Using the photos for reference, I make quick sketches and work them up later in my studio to make harmonious compositions.
Weather permitting, I paint outdoors (en plein air). Capturing the changing light, means I have to work quickly. Challenging when it rains, or, the wind steals the canvas and runs away with the easel, but it’s fun! I am a regular visitor to Europe’s largest open air painting festival in Wexford Art in the Open.
Exploring the world, travel gives rise to experience new panoramas and diverse, rich cultures of taste, colour and smell. This is so inspirational and creates a whole new perspective allowing the painting dictate the journey.
Contact me here if you would like to discuss the availability of any of the paintings on this site. Commissions welcome.
