Sunlight through the trees

My Meraki Oil Painting

I came across the Greek word “Meraki” and its meaning caught my attention.  For me, all I could think of was that it had to apply to a painting.  This is the nearest English translation:

“Meraki” to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself into your work

meraki [may-rah-kee] (adjective) of Greek origin

Sunlight through the trees
Meraki 10 x 14″ Oil on Canvas

And so, this is my Meraki painting!  It has been sitting on my easel for quite a while now – nameless, so I am happy to have found a title to compliment it.  These are the kind of scenes I like to paint because they are the places my mind often visits and lingers for a while.

I hope you like it.

  1. Thanks Lesley for stopping by. I agree with you wholeheartedly about how different we can perceive things to be, especially in art and even more especially in abstract art. Sometimes I am reluctant to comment on my paintings at all because it can distort the viewers interpretation and maybe it’s better to let them tell their own story! So interesting – vivre la difference!

      1. Each to their own ! If a painting can arouse an emotion – that surely is a positive in my book and fascinating to hear what interpretations other people make – sometimes worlds apart from what my thoughts were in the creation of the piece. What an interesting world! 🙂
