Ladies view

Ladies View just outside Killarney Co. Kerry is a well-known site and tourist attraction. Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting visited here during the royal visit in 1861. They were so taken with the view that it was named after them. I have visited this place both in summer and winter – magnificent with the lush countryside in summer and haunting loneliness in winter, but, always quietly beautiful.

a most beautiful place to visit with strong connec

a most beautiful place to visit with strong connections to the Great Famine. It sits north of Killary Fjord and south of Louisburgh. We drove around the area while on holiday and unexpectedly came upon it – its quiet beauty took our breath away.

There are two lakes nestled between the rich, lush mountains along the Wild Atlantic Way. At the northern end of the valley, right next to the road, there is a cross built in memory of the victims of the “Doolough Tragedy”. During the great famine in 1849 hundreds of needy inhabitants of Louisburgh set off on foot to Delphi Lodge to seek food from the authorities there. However, they were harshly rejected. On the way back to Louisburgh, many of them died of hunger and frost in the Doolough Valley.

A quote by Mahatma Gandhi is engraved in the cross: “It has always been a mystery to me how people can feel honored by the humiliation of their fellow human beings”

I wonder has President Joe Biden visited Doolough Valley on his many tours of Ireland and visiting his ancestral roots in Co. Mayo?

They’ve all been photographed and will be displayed on incognito.ie from this Friday, 31st March – and I’m thrilled to share that there is almost 3,000 artworks from over 1,000 artists in the 2023 Incognito Collection.

It’s the luck of the draw as to who gets what on the day, so please don’t leave it until the last minute, as it may well be too late! All artworks are going for the princely sum of €65

Jack and Jill are eternally grateful and in this increasingly challenging fundraising climate, the charity so badly needs these funds to keep its vital service going, which is a lifeline for over 400 families in communities across Ireland.

So, check out and register on www.incognito.ie and see almost 3000 entries that are photographed and on display from today.
