SHARDS OF LIGHT ART EXHIBITION CONTINUES AT BALLYROAN LIBRARY

As Shards of Light Art Exhibition continues, Guest blogger, Anne Nolan documents her visit on the opening night.

Local artist Donna McGee opened her unique and beautiful art exhibition at Ballyroan Library yesterday evening Jun 9.  There was glorious sunshine,  perfectly reflecting her art which portrays the timeless beauty of the Irish landscape, colour, hopes and dreams.

The exhibition was opened by Senior Librarian at Ballyroan Library Mr Brian Mulcahy, who was delighted to welcome Donna and her  art exhibition to the Library and wished her the greatest success.

Mr Mulcahy told the crowd how happy he was to host a public event.  It was the first such event the library has been able to host since the beginning of lockdown in Apr 2020. He said it was particularly lovely to open with such a heartwarming exhibition – symbolic of light and colour.  The public return to somewhat normal life events and togetherness was so welcome.

Donna, looking radiant and smiling from ear to ear, welcomed the guests to her exhibition. She said she named the exhibition ‘Shards of Light’ as for her, it was symbolic of the positive frame of mind we were all beginning to feel again, with the hope for an end to this terrible Pandemic and year we have all been forced to endure. She said she had chosen this selection of paintings to emphasise this uplifting mood and the return to a place of light, hope and togetherness. She finished by thanking her family and the library staff for all their help and saying ‘it is just wonderful to be here on a beautiful sunny evening celebrating with everyone, being together, and just doing ‘normal things’. With that, the small crowd (due to Covid restrictions) raised their glasses and gave a well deserved applause.

The exhibition runs from June 9 – Jun 26 and I urge you to go along and have a look. Donna works primarily in oils and her exhibition comprises a mixture of beautiful Irish landscapes and atmospheric abstract framed paintings. She also has some limited edition framed and unframed prints for sale.

The exhibition is on-view during Library opening hours through to Jun 26th.

You can meet Donna at the library on Mon – Thurs from 6.30 – 8.00pm and Fri and Sat 3 – 4.30pm throughout or contact her on 087 6791817 to arrange an appointment.

The large open modern library with its purpose built exhibition space is situated on Orchardstown Avenue Rathfarnham for those of you not familiar with it.

If you appreciate fine art this exhibition is one definitely not to miss!

The mood was set with a select group of guests who chatted easily over a glass of wine,  in the grounds of the library.
