Adventure to Nepal – Bhaktapur

Art + Travel Adventure to Nepal – Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur,  founded in 12th century,  is the ‘city of devotees’ and looks just like a medieval city built of brick and ornate wood carvings.  It is one of the three royal cities in the Kathmandu valley and is considered a cultural gem.

Dogs and monkeys lounge around as the street vendors work tirelessly to attract tourists into their shops and offer ‘special prices’ for special gifts.

A potter spins the wheel and turns out many quirky little pots for purchase.  He  invites tourist participation – I decline as I move on to watch others sift the rice grains  into  piles in the street – a visual feast of colour and quaint delight.

We visit Durbar Square with beautiful buildings dating back to 15th and 16th century AD,  the palace of 55 Windows, the Golden Gate, Nyatapola temple, also the temple of Bahairav and Dattatray.

We visit the teacher of the historical Thangka Art School and buy a Mandala – a prized posession that will find its way to our home and serve as a reminder of this great adventure.
